IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Police Impound Retrieval
-
Vehicles impounded by request of a police agency, and cleared for release by the police agency, will only be released to the registered owner. If the registered owner wishes to designate someone else to retrieve the vehicle and / or its contents, a legible copy of the registered owners drivers license with a hand written note by the owner designating the person to retrieve the vehicle and that persons drivers license number must be obtained. This note must be signed by the person who’s name appears on the registration and the registrants drivers license. The signature on the license and the note MUST match.
-
Vehicles that had the license plate removed by a law enforcement officer for failure to provide proof of insurance cannot be released without an authorization letter issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. At the time of impound for no insurance, the driver would have been issued a Notice of Violation. This notice, along with proof of insurance and drivers license, must be taken to the Department of Motor Vehicles for the release letter and license plate to be obtained.
-
*** A notary CANNOT do this. ***
-
